Liberté. Egalité. Féminité.

Marc Riboud, Donata Wenders, Marc Montméat, Martha Camarillo

This spring, Polka Gallery honours its most faithful godfather, Marc Riboud, by showcasing his work in an intimate exhibi- tion entitled “Liberty, Equality, Femininity”.

“I never cease to look for the element of surprise, for the right touch whether comical or moving, Beauty is everywhere.” (Marc Riboud)

Adélie de Ipanema and Edouard Genestar explain that along with Marc and his wife, Catherine Chaine, they want to “show a new side of the photographer, to surprise the collectors. The selected photographs emphasize liberty and femininity, two themes that Marc feels strongly about. In his work, women come from all over the world; they are African, Japanese, Pari- sian, and Chinese. Through their portraits, we retrace the career of the photographer, spanning sixty years”

Some of these images are unseen, others have stood the test of time, becoming symbols of historical moments; such as the shot taken in 1967 of a young American activist offering a small flower to American soldiers pointing their guns at her. This photograph has become the emblem of an anti-war generation that advocated tolerance and peace.

With this world tour composed of fifteen portraits of women, we invite you to discover the approach of this photography veteran, one of the masters of photojournalism
