Ara Güler

Ara Güler

Renowned as the ‘Master of Leica’, the work of late photojournalist, Ara Güler will be presented at Polka Galerie this month (24 may - 15 june). Ara Güler, who passed away last year, was known by many as one of the greatest photojournalists of his time, working for TIME Life, Paris Match and Magnum Photos. Capturing the daily lives of Turkey’s working class through the years, Güler also worked as a portrait photographer, intimately depicting the most famous and influential individuals of the twentieth century. The exhibition will not only place special emphasis on Ara Güler’s iconic images of Istanbul, but will give prominence to fascinating scenes from Anatolia and different parts of the world. It will also offer a selection of significant historical portraits, including Picasso, Dali, Aşık Veysel and Nazım Hikmet. The exhibition will feature portraits of John Berger, Winston Churchill and Alfred Hitchcock, all of whom have left an indelible mark on the U.K.’s history and cultural life.
