Yves Marchand & Romain Meffre
« La photographie nous semblait être le moyen le plus logique et le plus démocratique pour conserver un petit peu de cet état des choses, de ces lieux et de leur histoire. »
Yves Marchand et Romain Meffre ont commencé en 2001 à photographier des ruines, chacun de leur côté, avant de se rencontrer en 2002 pour former un duo d’artistes. Ils ont grandi dans la banlieue parisienne ; leurs première ruines furent donc parisiennes. Elles devinrent par la suite belges, espagnoles, allemandes, et américaines.
En 2005, le duo partait à l’assaut des vestiges de Detroit ou « Motor City », l’ex-capitale de l’automobile. « La ruine n’apparaissait plus comme anecdotique mais comme élément principal et quelque peu naturel du paysage ». C’est au cours de ce périple qu’ils photographient leurs premiers « Movie Theater », les palaces de l’âge d’or d’Hollywood.
Yves Marchand est né en 1981, Romain Meffre, en 1987.
