Art Brussels

For this 2025 edition, Polka returns to Art Brussels with a solo show dedicated to Italian photographer Franco Fontana and his inspirations. On the walls of its booth, the gallery will present a vast selection of works, including both recent prints, in large format, and older prints from his most famous series, from Skyline to Urbanscape, or even Seascape and his street photography of American cities.

In Italy, Franco Fontana is recognized as one of the great masters of contemporary photography. His work draws on abstract expressionism and minimalism, with contemporary masters such as Mark Rothko, Barnett Newman and Ed Reinhardt as references. In contrast to the traditional black-and-white art photography that predominated in his day, his work emphasizes form and color, using unique geometric compositions and vivid hues.

The booth 5D-52 features a selection of prints direct from the photographer's studio, alongside works by several Italian photographers of his generation: Luigi Ghirri, Mario Giacomelli and Gianni Berengo Gardin.
