Burial Creek is Matt Henry’s inaugural project, beginning late 2007, and establishing a long-term interest in mid-century America and its portrayal in film, television, and literature. As a graduate of Political Theory, Henry’s focus on the interwoven nature of politics and culture began to make its mark in this first diptych-based series. Burial Creek depicts a fictional town represented through classical American iconography. Here, these icons appear loaded with a sense of both the utopian and the dystopian, establishing a recurrent theme of the fragility of community and its relation to the political whole.
