Mexico City Waltz (2012)

"Mexico City Waltz" is a series inspired by three texts: Tristessa by Jack Kerouac, Under the Volcano by Malcolm Lowry, and A Voyage to the Land of the Tarahumara by Antonin Artaud. Three texts that, for Nicolas Comment, were a kind of entryway into Mexico. He follows the paths of these three authors and he finishes by detaching himself in order to create a visual poem of Mexico today. We are met by three young women -- "brunette like a blackberry" (Malcolm Lowry) -- who are the honest heroines of the story. Indeed, each location -- Mexico, Cuernavaca and the Sierra Tarahumara -- are the backdrops of a mysterious meeting. The reoccurrence of the number three in the series is a sign that Comment uses in reference to the three beat rhythm of the poem Mexico City Blues by Kerouac.Read more
