The works revisit a major decade in the photographic research of Luigi Ghirri, namely the seventies. This was a crucial period for the photographer's career as he created a body of color images to capture the particulars of his conceptual style that is bound to be recognized and appreciated.
That same decade, the artist published one of the most iconic photo books of all: Kodachrome (1978), featuring one of the most famous exhibitions of the time: Vera Fotografía (1979). The images he collected at that time created a photographic language illustrating the culture and geography of modern Italy.
Luici Ghirri provided representations of the world through his photographs, his models or his posters. He was fascinated by the way representations were anchored in the world, the signs integrating the city or the landscape. The exhibition The Map and the Territory revisits projects by Luigi Ghirri such as Atlante, consisting of photos of pages from an atlas, or Natural Light, in which the author looks at how people photograph and are photographed.
